COMPUTER ASSISTED SURGERY

From 2005, Lima is a BrainLab partner and since then Lima has adopted navigation systems (Kolibri System) to support surgeons during their work.

Computer assisted surgery (CAS) technology permits to better position the implants and therefore could be used as support to the traditional surgery techniques, but it also helps the surgeons in severe cases where it would be difficult to use the standard techniques. With this technology, inside the surgery theater, it is possible to track surgical instruments and anatomical landmarks, showing this info on the monitor screen, thus aiding the surgeons to perform bone resections under the continue control of landmarks. Better implant positioning means a long term outcome and fast post-operative recovery.

CAS results especially useful in mini-invasive techniques, giving doctors detailed information even though there are small cuts and small operating field for referring anatomical landmarks.

For a better placement in the surgery room, Kolibri platform is compact and the touch screen monitor can be separated from the optoelectronic system. All the software modules adopted, are image-less and therefore don't require any pre operative images reducing the ionizing radiation.

The graphic interface has been realized in order to give to the surgeon immediate , clear and precise information.

Lima support the following surgery:

  • Total knee arthroplasty
  • Hip arthroplasty ( resurfacing, acetabulum cup positioning)
